Greetings
Iguana Lodge is the Osa Peninsula's premier beach eco-resort. Established over eleven years ago, Iguana Lodge seeks to create memorable lifetime experiences for our guests - and is founded on the principles of sustainable tourism, personalized service, joy, health, and well-being. Located on the most beautiful beach on the Osa (no kidding), ten minutes outside of peaceful Puerto Jimenez, Iguana Lodge is a contemporary, lushly landscaped resort with a 20 meter lap pool and Jacuzzi, two yoga decks and complimentary yoga classes*, a deluxe spa, a fabulous Tico staff, award winning fresh, healthy meals at our two restaurants, our own naturalist, and excellent jungle and ocean adventures.
If you are thinking about coming to the Osa, remember that the Osa still is "the Last Great Peninsula...still untouched by the ravages of civilization, with over 350 species of birds, 115 species of reptiles, 750 species of trees and 10,000 species of insects...along with the 100,000 acre fantastic Corcovado National Park," per National Geographic. The Osa is a remote, gorgeous, rainforest. There isn't much night life here**, and all our structures are ecofriendly and natural - no air conditioners, televisions, or telephones - although we do have Wifi sprinkled about - and many of our rooms do not have locks, although safes are provided in each room.
We have three lodging options with a total of nineteen rooms: our secluded Casitas, The Villa Villa Kula (our fab three-story beach house), and our elegant, up-scale Club Rooms. (All rooms are screened and have a variety of ceiling and/or floor fans, and are frequently graced with lovely tropical breezes wafting from the gorgeous Golfo Dulce.)
We have two award-winning restaurants, serving excellent meals - we are dedicated foodies here. Breakfast for all guests is served on the Rancho's veranda, with platters of tropical fruit and fresh squeezed juices, as well as yogurt, homemade granola, pastries, and tasty, eclectic main dishes, as well as the famous Tico breakfast of "pinto" (rice and beans - special recipes, reverent preparation). Lunches are served at the Pearl of the Osa Beach Bar and Grill which offers fresh healthy food as well as the best french fries in the world; favorites include our awesome lemonade, Gloria’s burritos, fish tacos, salads, and our famous nachos. Dinner is available at both the Iguana Lodge Rancho and The Pearl. The Iguana Lodge Rancho is recognized throughout Costa Rica as offering some of the finest food in the country - international dining, community style, under an enormous candlelit suitta thatched roof.
A typical day at Iguana may read as follows: Howler monkey wake up call around 430 AM (roll over), birds song coupled with the endless rhythm of ocean waves around 5 AM, followed by the sipping of Costa Rican coffee on the veranda and/or taking an early morning sunrise dip, beach walk, or heading off to spot those gorgeous birds; then yoga and/or heading off on an adventure to swing through the jungle, enjoy the dolphins, hike through the park,...or maybe just hit the beach and get a tan, and/or sit around the pool and sip a cool beverage...hmmm....which to do, when?? How to fit it all in? As you can see, life is tough down here on the Osa. And that's just the morning! (By the way, you can just opt to sleep in.)
This is a casual beautiful spot, where relaxed on-site owners treasure healthy living, life on the Osa with nature at its finest, and maintaining a sense of wholeness and humor, while actively participating in the community, creating such projects as the first public library in the southern zone of Costa Rica, our Everyone Can Learn Basic English in 333 Words Project, and Todo Es Posible (we have presently assisted over eighty high school seniors attend university), as well as our Turtle Conservation Project.
As a final note, please keep in mind that because the Osa is so remote, it is not an inexpensive spot in which to vacation. There is not much civilization here, nor a lot of agriculture - supply and demand, rough roads, long distances, etc. mean that generally you will find things more expensive here than in other parts of Costa Rica. While we too wish things were less expensive, we are really happy that we aren’t living in Jaco or Tamarindo, where yes, things would be less expensive, but then we wouldn’t live on a deserted six mile beach, or be able to hike for 30 miles without seeing a soul. Staying on the Osa, you are paying in part for all that remoteness – vegetables have to arrive all the way from San Jose (and sometimes they don't arrive at all) – they cost more, not to mention fuel, motor parts, light bulbs, you name it... So, if you are somebody that wants a “great deal,” you will definitely find travel less expensive in other parts of the country. (Remember, things are expensive in Alaska, too.)
*Yoga classes are generally offered twice a day. Every once in a blue moon, classes aren't offered as the instructor (Lauren, one of the owners) in on vacation. If yoga classes here are a key ingredient to your happiness, please make that clear when making your reservation. By the way, it's a vinyasa flow coupled with sprinkled in attempted Cirque du Soleil tricks.
**Every Friday night here we do have an extravagant dance party that is famous throughout the Osa, involving a lot of locals salsa dancing, loud music, and good friends - music stops around 930 PM.
