Commuter flights from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez are a great way to arrive on the peninsula: the flight takes about fifty minutes. There are two airlines flying daily from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez: Nature Air and Sansa. Presently Nature Air charges $119 one way, $238 round trip (children under twelve $84/$168, under two free). Sansa charges $109 one way, $218 round trip (no discount for children, infants under two fly free). It is important to book flights early as they do fill up. We can also help you charter planes. San Jose has two airports. Nature Air flies out of the smaller Tobias Bolaños Airport which is located in Pavas; Sansa flies out of the main airport, Juan Santamaria International Airport. The airport in Pavas is about thirty minutes away from the International Airport, and Pavas is closer to central San Jose. Although Nature Air is a bit more expensive and not located at the Juan Santamaria International Airport (airport code "SJO"), we heartily recommend Nature Air: Nature Air's airplanes have two engines, not just one (that's a biggie, folks), and their safety record is better. Perhaps there is a connection.
Both airlines require you to check in 60 minutes before your flight. Both airlines have baggage weight restrictions. Nature Air allows 30 lbs. per person, with additional baggage charged as follows : $25 extra per bag (31 to 45 pounds) and $60 extra per bag (46 to 70 pounds). Surf boards, bicycles, etc. are $40. See Packing List for suggestions. Sansa allows 25 lbs. per person, and any additional pounds cost $0.56 per pound. Surf boards are $10 one way. Remember, you are coming to the tropics – honestly, how many clothes do you need? Nature Air offers baggage storage in San Jose if you don’t want to bring everything with you to the Osa.
