Although Iguana Lodge is itself exquisite, exploring the Osa is not to be missed. The Osa Peninsula has truly grand adventure. Something for everyone - high impact, low impact, wild and crazy, a comfortable stroll, swinging through trees, running for your life from wild peccaries:  there are many ways to experience the Osa.

Talented guides, many with biology backgrounds and all of whom live down here and adore the Osa for one reason or many, will give you a bird's eye view of our peninsula. Iguana Lodge now has its own native naturalist guide who is often seen wandering about with his telescope, guests in tow, pointing out our resident monkeys, sloths, etc. He is a font of rainforest knowledge, and offers a few Iguana Lodge day and night hikes. Meanwhile, Iguana is renowned for its use and promotion of independent tour guides and activities. We introduce you to the best and brightest independent guides on the Osa. We do this for several reasons: first, many of the best guides have developed their own businesses; second, farming out this work puts more money into the community; and third, we have enough to do without also owning boats, climbing equipment, etc. (We didn't move down here to work ourselves silly.)

Our recommended tours have all come about from years of swinging, hacking, and slithering through the jungle (depending upon the terrain), getting to know the guides, and most importantly listening to our guests. Excursions are private unless you prefer to join with others; rest assured that your guides are working to please you. This isn't Disney Land (thank goodness) - this is the Osa Peninsula, this is the jungle.

Upon your arrival, we are happy to meet with you and discuss your plans for adventure. We then arrange everything. Normally tours need not be arranged ahead of time, however, during late December, mid-February and late March, you may want to line up some tours ahead of time. Let us know.

Many activities will take you to different parts of the peninsula. Round trip 4X4 ground transportation to and from the lodge is generally not included in the tour price.
